Dear Taylored Athletes,
I know many of you are either playing recreational league ball or preparing to lace up their Nike's for middle school try-outs. Before they hit the hard wood, Taylored Athletes wanted to give them a few tips on how to stand-out at tryouts.
Tip #1 - Ball Handling
- When you wake up do 25 ball slaps (after getting dressed for school of course) 25 ball slaps x 7 days = 175 reps
- When in the car, carry the ball with you at all times. By having the basketball in your hands, it increases your feel for the ball and allows you to become "one" with the ball. You've also see an increase focus on the upcoming challenge
- Practice ball handling every day leading up to the try-outs. By practicing everyday for two weeks, your muscles and dexterity will be good form.
Tip #2 - Be in good shape
- Being in good shape is very important. Try-Out are typically short but very fast paced. Do some distance running or biking to build endurance. Don't forget to dribble a basketball on your jog to kill to birds with one stone.
Tip #3 - Look like a baller not a model
- Don't over do it with the wrist bands, head bands, and show bands. It's not a fashion contest.
- Wear good basketball shoes with proper ankle support, athletic socks, basketball shorts, remove all jewelry.
- Note: for Girls and Guys with long hair - be sure to have your hair up securely
Tip #4 - Earlier baller gets the Edge
- Arrive at least 15 minutes to before try outs is scheduled
- While waiting for try-out to begin, grab a basketball and start doing some ball hand handling drills to get the blood flowing.
- If there is still time - stand five to 7 feet from the hoop and work on your form shooting to ensure your dialed in with your shooting touch
Tip #5 - Stay focused on the Goal
- The goal is to make the team
- Once try out begins, show the coach that you're coachable. Be attentive when he/she is talking or demonstrating. Coaches like to have attentive and teachable players
- When transition from one area to the next. DON'T WALK. Sprint to the next station or area. Hustle is one of the most important keys to making any team and being a winner
- Focus on executing the fundamentals of each drill. Don't get discouraged, and keep a positive attitude through out the entire day.
All right Taylored Athletes', your all set. The last tip you should know already. Which is believe in your self, know you deserve to be on that team. The training begins now. So get started.. If you need any help, you can always call on us for some help. PROATYOURDOOR!!!
